The Grand Variety Show was held in conjunction with the 150th Anniversary of the Founding of Singapore and the Club-Activities Fund-raising, and sponsored by local electrical appliance brand, Setron. Setron was set up in 1964 by a group of entrepreneurs and went on to become a household name for television sets in the 1960s and 1970s.The performances in the show were led by various activity groups of the National Theatre Club ranging from choir to dance, harmonica and Chinese orchestra. The Club played an important part in the development and promotion of local artistic talents, which was in part driven by the National Theatre's promotion of the rich cultures of Singapore. This showcase was one of the many successful shows organised by the National Theatre Club and held at the National Theatre in the 1960s and 1970s.
