I-Lien Dramatic Society was a recreational drama club formed in 1957 by a group of drama enthusiasts, many who were from the education field. Their debut play was "The Peking Man" (1940), a notable work by famous Chinese playwright Cao Yu. Since then the society has performed a variety of plays from Chinese classics and contemporary comedies. "The Peking Man" was Cao Yu's fifth play and it was completed during the Second World War. Widely regarded as his most successful work, the play was set in Beijing and focused on a family that could not adapt to the modern world.
