This souvenir publication marks the 7th anniversary of the Princess Elizabeth Community centre. It was the third community centre in the estate, built by the People's Association and provided amenities such as reading rooms and venues for both indoor and outdoor games. The concept of Community centres was brought to Singapore by the British after the WWII. The initial aim was to enhance community development and the early centres built in 1950s were by the Department of Social Welfare. Among the oldest and well-known is the Tiong Bahru community centre, built in 1948.The , Balestier, Rochore and Alexandra were built in 1951, although officially opened much later
