This is a newsletter(March/April 1982 Issue No. 19) from Yaohan – the Japanese department store which opened its Singapore store in 1974 at the Plaza Singapura shopping centre. The biggest supermarket store occupied 3 floors. As a one-stop shopping centre Yaohan sold all kinds of commodities including food, produce and take-aways. It was also much ahead of its times, the store offered laundry and instant shoe repair service and even cashless payments through NETS. With the entry of Takashimaya in 1993 – the retail scene changed, and Yaohan faced financial distress- the parent company insolvent ad tge last of its branches in Thomson Plaza closed
