This souvenir published by the Gandhiji Memorial Committee was bought out to mark the opening of the Hall. On 3 Race Course Lane in Little India, the Hall was built to as a tribute to the assasinated Indian leader. The foundation stone for the building meant to house a library, hall, stage and offices was laid by the then Indian PM, Nehru in 1950. The motivation and funds for the building came from several local community leaders including R Jumabhoy, G. Maganlal and many others. The British High Commissioner Malcolm Macdonald opened the building on April 25, 1953. The brick building shows some art deco influences and has an exterior wall relief of Gandhi. Currently the offices of the Hindi Society is located there. The building was conferred conservation status in 2011.
