Skirtcloth

Woven textiles from Timor are characterized by narrow multi-coloured warp stripes, as can be seen in this tubeskirt. Indigo, red and white thread might have been used to evoke talismanic protection for its wearer. Between warp strips of red thread, there are narrow bands of ikat patterns. The simplicity of the designs found on this tubeskirt suggests that it was most likely for everyday use.
