The jetty was a major source of inspiration for Ba Nyan (1897-1945), continuing to revisit this subject from the 1930s into the 40s. Compared to other paintings with the same subject matter of the bustling scene of commerce, this work is notable for the ‘statuesque’ quality in figures created by figures delineated with outlines. This work is one of two-set study paintings for the murals at the Teacher’s Training College.
