This movie poster was produced for the French release of the Italian adventure film ‘The Pirates of Malaya’. The poster presents the protagonist carrying a woman in the foreground with people fighting at a fort in the background. The film was based on an exotic adventure novel written by the Italian author Emilio Salgari in 1896, who was inspired by the life of Sir Henry Keppel, a Royal Navy officer who fought pirates in Borneo. Sir Keppel is an important figure in 19th Century Singapore history and Keppel Bay was named after him.
