Pedra Branca is an island on the easternmost point of Singapore, comprising a small outcrop of granite rocks. This feature is depicted in this print by Thomas and William Daniell, published as a series of 50 prints titled "A Picturesque Voyage to India by Way of China". The collection documents the Daniells’ journey, on EIC ships, from England to China and India, passing through Java and the Straits of Malacca along the way. This print shows violent waves surging upon the island and presents it as an important navigational landmark, with a Malay perahu attempts to navigate its way past it in the foreground, and a European ship passing through in the background.
