Blue and white censer

This vessel which takes the form of a bronze gui censer is painted with a band of stylised decoration around the neck, and ruyi-heads and ring handles on the body. The decoration around the neck makes reference to taotie masks and other motifs used on ancient Chinese bronzes. The nod to antiquity highlights the prevalence of archaism as a key theme in the production of Chinese porcelain during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911).
