This set comprises of a dhoti (waist cloth) and an angavastram (shoulder cloth), both are made of unstitched white cotton cloth. A dhoti is a garment worn commonly by men of the Indian subcontinent. The use of uncut and unstitched cloth for garments, is a distinct feature of South Asian dress. This practice stems from the belief that the uncut cloth symbolises ritual purity. James Finlay & Company from Glasgow began trading in India in 1812, and eventually started a cotton mill agency in Bombay in 1902.
