Charles Cornwallis, the 1st Marquess of Cornwallis, was the Governor-General of India from 1786 to 1793. It was during his tenure that the Third Anglo-Mysore War took place, with the defeat of Tipu Sultan of Mysore. This print was based on an original portrait of Cornwallis by Henry Walton.
