This small seven panel belt belt (tali pinggang in Baba Malay) is decorated with dragons and flowers on each panel. The panels are joined together with interlocking link pieces. Based on the size of the circumference of this belt it was likely worn by a young child.Such belts were worn by Peranakans to hold up their sarongs. They were also a financial reserve for Peranakan women as they individual panels could be removed and sold for cash during hard times. This belt and the other pieces of jewellery and ceramics come from Panglima Prang, the ancestral home of prominent businessmen and philanthropists, Tan Kim Seng (1805-1864) and Tan Jiak Kim (1859-1917).
