Marriage Certificate of Lim Chong Pang (1944)This is a marriage certification of Lim Chong Pang and his second wife Chia Meow Moey. They were married during the Japanese Occupation and the ceremony was witnessed by Fujisaki Mamoru. His first wife was Lee Poh Neo (m.1924) was the daughter of Lee Choon Guan, a prominent Peranakan businessman and community leader. Lim Chong Pang (1904 –1956) was the second son of Lim Nee Soon, the “Pineapple King” of Singapore. A prominent businessman, the range of Lim Chong Pang’s businesses included property and estate management, film production and movie theatres. He was also the director of the Overseas Assurance Corporation, a company his father co-founded. More notably, Lim Chong Pang was a long-time member of the Singapore Rural Board, a governmental body dealing with municipal issues such as water and electricity supplies, construction of maternity clinics, repair of main roads and the building of public standpipes. Upon his death, the government renamed Westhill Estate, a former rubber estate, to Chong Pang Village to mark Lim’s long service in the Singapore Rural Board (1929-1938).
