Circular hairpin

This circular hairpin is inset with a rough cut diamond, known as an intan. It is one of a pair. Compared to other more decorated examples, this hairpins is relatively simple and would have likely been worn in a cluster with other simple pins. Hairpins like this would have been made for Peranakan women in the Straits Settlements to be worn as part of a wedding headdress. A Peranakan bride would tie her hair into a bun or sanggul and individual hairpins would have been stuck in to create a headdress.
