This stand accompanies a lantern said to have been given to the Marquess and Marchioness Dalhousie by the merchants of Singapore during their visit to Singapore in 1850. The carved openwork panels depict animals, human figures, and floral patterns. The base features ferocious heads at the corners. Emerging from the mouth of each beast is a claw clutching a ball, a typical motif seen in Chinese furniture of the period.
