Johan Nieuhoff's L'Ambassade de la Compagnie Orientale des Provinces Unies vers l’Empereur de la Chine

This book contains the account of the first embassy sent by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) from 1655 to 1657 to the Emperor of China, as chronicled by Johan Nieuhof. It is one of the earliest European accounts of Chinese culture, society, geography, botany and zoology, and includes a detailed description of the East Indies. The text, based on Nieuhof's eyewitness account, is supplemented with numerous illustrations.
