These lace sample come from the collection of Sylvia Kho who was a prominent bridal couturier in Singapore from the 1950s to 1990s. She designed and custom-made wedding gowns using elaborate laces imported from Europe. She travelled extensively to France and USA to learn how wedding gowns were designed and made. She also became one of the greatest buyers of wedding gown laces in France. This lace sample would have been offered to her clients who comprised not only of brides but also mothers, aunts and sisters of the brides. This particular type of hand-made cotton lace were particularly popular with the mothers of brides. Made by hand, such fine quality of lace are no longer produced by millinery houses in Europe.
