The Olympus-Pen camera series began in 1959 and it was the first half-frame camera produced in Japan, designed by the renowned Yoshihisa Maitani. Being compact and portable, it was a very popular camera. This particular model, the EES-2, appeared in the market in 1968 and it was in production till the late 1970s. The donor's father had bought this camera in the 1970s for about $200 and had used it for recreational purposes.
