About 3,000 joss sticks are burnt therea day.Clothes shop-owner Liu Yong Jiang, who is the president of the temple committee, saysthe raintree has flourished with the shrine and has become a place for people to rest inthe shade, read and even play chess. When devotees get their prayers answered, theyreturn with coffee for the deity every day. Mr Liu has also seen monkeys climb up thetree while others once spotted a cobra.
