Tan Teng-Kee was born in Batu Pahat, Johor, Malaysia, in 1937. He studied Chinese and Western painting at the New Asia College, Hong Kong (1958-62) and after a few years living and working in Paris, studied metal sculpture (under renowned sculptor Norbert Kricke) and printmaking at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany (1967-70).
