This set of Malaysian Airways matchboxes would have been given to passengers as souvenirs. The graphics and text on the matchboxes highlight the various destinations that Malaysian Airways served in the region, such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Kuching and Jesselton (known as Kota Kinabalu today). The matchboxes also feature an image of its jet aircraft, the Comet IVs known as the Silver Kris jets. They are part of the history of Singapore Airlines, established in 1972 after the separation of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). The predecessor of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines was Malaysian Airways Limited, which was named as such to commemorate the formation of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963.
