Outlook is the in-house newsletter of the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group, which was incorporated in 1972. The airline’s logo, a stylised version of a bird symbolising flight can be seen on the newsletter’s masthead. This particular edition (23 September 1983) reports on the official opening of Airline House, SIA’s corporate headquarters at the Changi Airfreight Centre. Airline House was the most ambitious single project undertaken by SIA in its $520 million investment on new buildings and equipment at Changi. The distinctive U-shaped complex housed the world’s largest column-free hangar of that time. With a size equivalent to seven soccer pitches side by side, the hangar could accommodate three Boeing 747 planes. In April 1983, SIA took delivery of its first Boeing 747-300 plane.
