Compilation of bugle calls for the Ceylon Rifle Regiment

The Ceylon Rifle Regiment (CRR) was a regular native regiment formed by the British in Ceylon in 1795, when five independent companies of Malays were transferred from the Dutch to the British East India Company service. This manuscript, dated 1856, compiles the bugle calls for 113 military commands, each with musical notation and explanatory remarks in English, Malay and Tamil. It was compiled by Ensign William Guy of the CRR, and was directed to native and non-commissioned officers of the Regiment. The bugle calls were divided into ‘regulation sounds’, daily barrack sounds’ and ‘miscellaneous sounds’.
