Pre-prepared slipper faces were sold by itinerant haberdashers, where the design was cut from cardboard and pasted on a fabric base. Cardboard details would have been embroidered over to achieve raised thread embroidery. Abstract floral patterns decorate the slipper face while a border of different colours lines the inner edge of the vamp. The acquisition contains numerous examples of templates, patterns and tools embroiderers used in the making of beadwork pieces.
