This janamaz (Persian/Urdu: prayer mat) is a fine example of a zari-woven silk textile. The central motif appears to be a stylised, almost minimalistic, version of a mihrab with minarets on the side, surrounded by a geometric border. Prayer mats of this fine quality would have most likely been used by the upper classes or by royalty.
