This tinsel brocade would have been woven in Benaras. It is a silk-gauze popularised by women in the Mughal courts. The border of this brocade is highly unusual and rare for a Benarasi brocade. Alternating figures of Krishna and Radha appear on the wide border, without any of the usual accompaniments of floral scrollwork, background patterning, geometric edging or birds and animals.
