Untitled (Eastern & Oriental Express)

This image shows the Eastern & Oriental Express, a luxury train that plies the route between Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. The train originally operated in New Zealand in the 1970s, before its carriages were regauged for Thai and Malaysian raliway lines. It later underwent an extensive rebuild and fit-out in the Keppel rail yards in Singapore. This image is part of the "Tracking Memories" collection by the late Mr Kwek Leng Joo. The collection captures different aspects of the Malayan Railway story in Singapore, documenting an important chapter in the history of Singapore. Some of the works were exhibited at the National Museum of Singapore in 2011, together with the watercolour paintings of Mr Ong Kim Seng.
