The face of each slipper is embroidered with elaborate foliate and lozenge patterns in gold-coloured metallic thread. The central motif is a figure of a rat. The entire slipper is covered with a layer of turquoise-coloured velvet. The heel is low. This pair was probably made to be worn by a bride for silk and velvet were the preferred base for wedding shoes. It is part of a donation which contains a mixture of garments worn by Peranakan men and women.
