A kain panjang literally means long cloth in Malay. This unsewn piece of batik would have tied together and worn in a similar fashion to a sarong which is a tubular skirt already sewn together. This orange based kain panjang is decorated with floral sprays and birds. Flowers also form the border of the cloth. Batik textiles like these were worn by Peranakan Chinese in the Strait Settlements and Indonesia as a skirt to accompany a top known as a kebaya.
