The sari is a traditional pan-Indian drape, woven in various parts of the sub-continent. Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, an illustrious weaving centre, is renowned for the “Kanchivaram Silk Sari”, worn during special occasions as well as by Tamil brides. This collection of saris were donated by Dr.R.D.Gangatharan in memory of his mother, the late Lakshmi Rangasamy Davar. Lakshmi Rangasamy Davar, was a woman pioneer – she was an educationist, musician and philanthropist.
