This pair of slippers is embroidered with gold thread against a dark green velvet ground. The inner sole is embossed with a shop mark which reads ‘PATEKOAN, ZINK HAP HO, B.K.T, BATAVIA’ around a sunburst motif. The main flower motifs are embroidered in chain and bullion stitches. Velvet was the material of choice as a ground for metallic embroidery since it offered a durable support.
