Embroidered Slippers with Central Floral Motif in Metallic Thread

This pair of square-toe slippers is couched with metallic threads to create a floral background. Metallic thread is also used to embroider the raised floral motif in the centre and border patterns. Such shoes were worn in the early 1900s but quickly fell out of favour in the Straits Settlements. It is part of a donation which contains a mixture of garments worn by Peranakan men and women.
