Pachisi is a one of the oldest games originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is often referred to as the national game of India and was played by all groups of society. A pachisi set comprises of a board, several gaming pieces and dice. Pachisi boards are fashioned in a wide variety of types and are often decorated with embroidery or beads. The gaming pieces were also made in various sizes and materials such as ivory, bone, glass, silver, although they were most commonly made of painted wood. Pieces that were made in the form of female musicians or birds are considered exotic.
