This uniform was worn by Herbert Lim Eng Kwan (1927-2002) when he was a King’s Scout and leader of Clarence High School’s 4th Bangalore Troop. Son of Lim Chong Pang and grandson of the Peranakan pineapple and rubber planter and prominent philanthropist Lim Nee Soon, Herbert was evacuated with his family to Bangalore Cantonment before Singapore fell to the Japanese in 1942. A small piece of fabric with the words ‘Bangalore Troop’ is attached to the right sleeve. The uniform is part of a donation which contains a mixture of garments worn by Peranakan men and women.
