These belts are made out of a piece of leather embroidered with velvet and cut beads or manek potong. Two have gilded silver belt buckles and are decorated with various auspicious motifs. Belts like these would have been worn by Peranakan women to hold their sarongs (tubular skirts) in place. It contains unusual forms of beadwork and embroidery and are reflective of the fondness that Peranakan Chinese throughout Southeast Asia have for bright colours and ornate decorations.
