This woolen cap is an extremley fine example of kanikar weaving in pashmina wool. Kanikar patterns generally depict foliage, flowering vines, paisley patterns and other nature-inspired designs. Weavers painstakingly introduce coloured warp threads into the weft, making kanikar woven pieces rare and expensive. Woolen caps such as these would have been used by the upper classes of Kashmiri society, and possibly by Muslims for special occasions.
