The Buddha is seated in a yogic posture called half lotus posture, with one leg on top of the other. His hands are in his lap in a gesture of meditation. His monastic robe covers one shoulder and the folds are delineated gracefully around the contours of his body. The hands and feet are masterfully crafted.Due to the close proximity of Sri Lanka to southern India this exquisite bronze shows influence from the art of Andhra Pradesh. This can be seen in the low cranial bump (ushnisha). Also the style of robes with the evenly spaced incised lines and the way the volume of fabric is indicated around the legs.
