The coupon parking system was introduced by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) in 1980 to facilitate efficient use of labour resources. This coupon, in the new “die-cut” format with removable tabs, was introduced in Feb 1980 to replace the old coupon which required the user to shade the respective columns with pencil. This artefact was part of the selection in the time capsule buried in 1990 by then DPM Ong Teng Cheong to celebrate Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence in 2015.
