This tall zardozi-embroidered cap is a fine example of craftsmanship. Zardozi is the craft of embroidering in gold or silver thread – fine wire is twisted into a variety of shapes and used with sequins of the same material. Zardozi prospered particularly under the Mughal rule in India, in what is now the Uttar Pradesh state. 19th-20th century examples of zardozi such as this cap show similar motifs and symmetrical patterns that were typical of Islamic art in India around the same time.
