This family planning handbill with advertisement on contraceptive tablets juxtaposes two families, the Lims and the Tans, and uses illustrations to tell the story of “The Foolish Lims and the Wise Tans”. The Lims represent the big family with five children. The lack of family planning has put a financial strain on the sole breadwinner Mr Lim. The Tans, on the other hand, used contraceptives for family planning and enjoyed their married life with two children. This supports the family planning policy between the 1970s and 1986 which placed emphasis on “Stop at two (children)” to control population growth and fertility
