This keris stand is in the form of a frog is a subtle reference to the Shiva lingam, an important fertility symbol. The Balinese associate the frog with the female gender while the keris is seen as male. Bali remains Hindu today and Shiva is an important deity. Stands such as this were used in Balinese courts for the ceremonial display of heirloom kerises. Such stands were also placed near the entrance of a home as a place for guests to place their kerises whilst visiting.
