The two songs on this record, “Baia – Samba-Jonga” and “The Mockingbird Samba”, are by Robert Inglex and his orchestra. The band began recording in 1945 and was very popular in the dance music scene of the 1940s and 1950s where Latin rhythms were very popular. His records issued in England were under the Parlophone records. In Malaya, Parlophone had a special yellow label for Malay records and featured star performers like P. Ramlee. Music from England and America were gaining popularity amongst Peranakans in Singapore and the Straits during the early 20th century. Musical bands and troupes were formed during this period and they would perform at celebratory occasions organized by Peranakans such as birthdays and weddings.
