The NTUC Fairprice is a supermarket chain based in Singapore and the largest in the country. In the 1970s, the NTUC formed various co-operatives to keep essential goods and services affordable for union members and Singaporeans. Its first co-op supermarket, NTUC Welcome (now known as NTUC FairPrice), was opened in July 1973 and the signboards featured the original NTUC Fairprice logo which was recently revamped in 2008. This artefact was part of the selection in the time capsule buried in 1990 by then DPM Ong Teng Cheong to celebrate Singapore’s 50th anniversary of independence in 2015.
