Using Romanisation and Chinese characters as phonetical representations, it gives practical instructions on how to articulate and pronounce basic Japanese sentences. The aim is for the locals to pick up basic Japanese conversational skills in the shortest possible time. The Japanese made Japanese language a compulsory subject in schools. Many people made the effort to learn the language as it helped boost their employment prospects.
