Dressing table

This brown dressing table was likely carved locally in Malacca. It has a marble table top and shows signs of past gilding along the edges of the table. At the centre is a bevel edged oval mirror. This table used to stand in the ancestral home of the Leong family of Malacca. It was found in the mansion of Mr Leong Long Man, a rubber tycoon, Justice of Peace and member of the Chinese Advisory Board. Today that mansion is the location of the Majestic Hotel. Built in 1929, it was sold off to businessman Lim Heng Fang in 1955.
