This plate has five alternating bands of calligraphy in black ink and a decorative red-chain pattern. The centre of the plate has a four-sided "magic square" which charms or words of healing painted on its four sides. The magic square and charms were believed to lead to healing and warding off disease for the users of these bowls and plates. The bands of calligraphy could be from the Qoran and from other Islamic verse.This plate closely resembles a plate from the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, dated to 1775, found at the Golconda Fort (Hyderabad, India) and given as a gift to Queen Mary of England
