This weiqi set consists of a folding board, two containers and gaming pieces. The board can be reversed to play Xiangqi (Chinese chess). Weiqi is a traditional game that was an important aspect of the Chinese elite’s leisure culture since the Tang dynasty (618–907). It was an essential component of the Chinese scholar’s self-image and cultural accomplishment alongside poetry, painting and calligraphy. Folding weiqi boards are light and easily transported, which made them convenient for players to carry with them while traveling.
