Dewi Sri is a fertility goddess from early Javanese Hindu-Buddhist belief that is still widely adulated on the islands of Java, Bali and Madura. She is closely associated with rice and fertility and will frequently be petitioned for help in obtaining children or in ensuring a rich harvest. Early Balinese carvings of Sri such as this closely compare to earlier East Javanese images of her, showing her as a voluptuous beauty at the height of her fertility and youth, suggestively clad and richly adorned with jewellery.
