Blue and white serving plate early - mid 20th century

This blue and white European transfer ware plate belonged to Stella Kon’s family home, Oberon, on Emerald Hill. Plates like these were commonly found in Peranakan households, among other items of furniture and decorative arts that Anglophile families used. Stella Kon is an award-winning Singapore playwright whose most important work was the 1983 one-woman play, Emily of Emerald Hill. She is also a descendent of two prominent Peranakan philanthropists, Tan Tock Seng and Dr Lim Boon Keng.
